HPE DL360 Gen10 Base Knowledge .
The HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 Rack Server is a very powerful 1U 2 Socket server supporting 24 DIMMs on a 2-socket configuration. This server has many different types of upgrades and support for many options. These options have rules that need to be followed. Like the ability to install NVDIMM or Persistent Memory. Each of these types of memory is only supported by certain Processors.
The DL360 Gen10 Rack Server can support 2 Intel Scalable Processors. Either Gen1 or Gen 2 are supported but processors can’t be mixed and any processor with a TPD 130W or over will get the Performance Heatsink (871246 - B21 ).
Mixing RDIMM and LRDIMM memory is not supported. Max of 12 NVDIMMs are only supported on 1st generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and can only be mixed with RDIMMs. You will also need the HPE Smart Storage Battery to support the NVDIMMs. A single 96W battery can support up to 24 devices. Max 12 Persistent Memory is only supported with the Second Gen Intel Scalable Processors and can only be mixed with either RDIMMs or LRDIMMs. For detailed information about what processor can handle what type of memory. Please read the QuickSpecs Tech Manual at the bottom of the description.

The DL360 Gen10 comes with the S100i. The S100i is a 14-port SATA controller, but only 12 ports are accessible as 2 are leveraged to support the M.2 options on the Primary Riser. The DL360 also supports Type-A Smart Array cards which do not take up a PCI slot but they do have 1 rule when installing the Secondary Riser. If you have a Type-A Smart Array installed and you also want to have the Secondary Riser installed, make sure the Type-A Smart Array Card has a low-height heatsink. If you do not have the low-height heatsink, the PCI-e card installed in the secondary riser will run into the Type-A Smart Array card. Any storage controller that is an LH Controller will work with the secondary riser.
Like most HPE Servers, if you install a Performance Array you will also need to install the HPE 96W Smart Storage Lithium-ion Battery with 145mm Cable Kit (P01366-B21) or the HPE Smart Storage Hybrid Capacitor with 145mm Cable Kit (P02377-B21). Both energy packs will do the trick for the controller, but the Hybrid capacitor can only support up to 3 devices while the 96W controller can support up to 24 Devices.

The DL360 Gen10 has many slightly different chassis to choose from. Network Choice (NC) chassis models do not include an embedded LOM. When you select the NC Chassis you will need to select a FlexibleLOM or Stand-up PCIe card for networking capabilities.
Another thing to look out for when you select a Chassis is the type of Drives you can install. There are two chassis that only support Basic Carriers (BC) Drives. Do not mix Smart Carriers (SC) and Basic Carriers (BC) drives. The 8SFF BC CTO can be upgraded to 10SFF BC with the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 2SFF SAS/SATA 12G BC Drive Cage Kit (P26435-B21 ).
If you do select a BC Chassis it can support the Broadcom MegaRAID Tri-mode controller. This Broadcom MegaRAID controller only supports Basic Carriers SFF and does not support NVMe drives.
Now that we have talked about the SC, BC, NC, and normal chassis. It’s time to see the different configurations you can choose from.

For 10 NVMe chassis – A secondary Riser is not available due to the 10 x4 NVMe riser. When the 10 SFF NVMe/SAS backplane ( 867974 -B21) option is installed, NVMe drives must be installed in bays 9 and 10. The other bays support a mix of NVMe and SAS drives.
MegaRAID TRI-MODE Controller
DL360 Gen10 with Broadcom MegaRAID controllers only supports Basic Carrier (BC) SFF SAS/SATA storage devices. Do not attempt to use Smart Carrier storage devices in these DL360 models with MegaRAID controllers. Mixing of BC and SC carrier types is not allowed. NVMe is not supported with DL360 Gen10 with MegaRAID storage controllers. This CTO Server contains default SAS/SATA drive cage/backplane and tri-mode to SAS/SATA cables. There is also a 8SFF SAS/SATA PCIe Slot2 Tri-Mode Cable Kit (P55884 - B21).
If you install the 2SFF SAS/SATA 12G BC Drive Cage Kit ( P26435 - B21). It is mandatory you install the 2SFF SAS/SATA Tri-Mode Cable Kit (P55883-B21).
HPE DL360 Gen10 M.2 Drives
The DL360 Gen10 has the normal Stand-up PCIe card that holds two M.2 Drives. But it also has a unique option of adding the M.2 2280 Primary Riser kit ( 867978 -B21). This Riser kit not only has the x16 PCIe slot but also has 2x M.2 2280 Drive slots. You can only install the 2280 Type M.2 drives with this PCIe riser. This PCIe riser is a great way to save a PCIe slot but still has the M.2 drives installed. For any major release beyond VMware ESXi 7.x, VMware will require M.2 or another local persistent device as the standalone boot option.
Want more M.2 drives, the DL360 supports the uFF Drive type as a 1xDual uFF (2x M.2) rear drive or as the optional 2xDual uFF (4x M.2) drives in the front of the chassis. If you install the Rear Drive cage you will lose an FH PCIe slot in the primary riser Slot 1.
HPE DL360 Gen10 PCIe Risers
The DL360 Gen10 Rack Server has 3 PCIe slots on two Riser Cages. The first Riser Cage is a butterfly riser and holds Slot 1 and Slot 2 on the riser card. This Primary Riser cage has 3 different riser cards to choose from while the secondary Riser has 2 options.
The Primary Riser has a unique option to save a PCIe slot when installing M.2 Drives. If you install the Primary SATA M.2 Riser (867978-B21), you will have two M.2 Slots on the riser card. This card only supports the 2280 M.2 Type drives. Another option for the primary riser is the GPU Riser which has a power source on the riser card to make cabling easier for the GPU. When you install the 2 SFF NVMe Backplane Kit (871242-B21) , it comes with a special Primary Riser that has 1 NVMe connection to support up to 2 SFF NVMe drives. This NVMe Riser also comes with both default PCI slots, x16 in slot 1 and x8 in slot 2. The Final option for the Primary riser is the installation of the rear drives. This takes away the FH slot 1 from the riser to allow a single drive cage to be installed in the rear while also providing an x8 PCIe slot 2.
If a secondary full-height kit is installed, then primary PCIe Slot #2 cannot be used. Only 2 full height slots are supported. If you install a Rear drive, you will lose the Primary Riser FH Slot 1.
If you install 2 NVMe drives in the front bay, there will be an NVMe port on the riser included with the Backplane kit (871242-B21). A similar kit is installed when you select the NVMe chassis with support for up to 10 NVMe drives. That kit is the 10SFF Premium backplane kit (867974-B21). This kit comes with a secondary riser that has 5 NVMe ports.

For 10 NVMe Premium chassis:
- 2 CPUs – Includes 7 high-performance fans as standard
HPE DL360 Gen10 GPU / Workload Accelerator
When installing the GPU FH Primary Riser (P23271-B21) option the GPU sits in Slot1. If you want to install a second GPU or if Slot 1 is taken. You can install the FH Secondary Riser and install the GPU in Slot 3. You will need two Processors for this and upgrade the fans.
There is one small adjustment that needs to be made if you have a Type-A Smart Array card installed. You will need to install the LH controller (869083-B21) to allow the GPU to fit in slot 3. This GPU Enablement v2 Kit (P23271-B21) is not available on the 10 NVMe model. Slot 3 is taken up by the NVMe riser for direct attached drives.
HPE DL360 Gen10 Flex Slot your power!
Mixing of 2 different power supplies is NOT supported .
HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies share a common electrical and physical design that allows for hot plug, tool-less installation into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Performance Servers. Flex Slot power supplies are certified for high-efficiency operation and offer multiple power output options, allowing users to "right-size" a power supply for specific server configurations. This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.
