HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus Base Knowledge.

The DL365 Gen10 Plus Rack server by HPE supports Dual Socket Gen 3 AMD Processors and with 16 DIMM slots per processor, 8 channels per processor, 2 DIMMs per channel. If you’re looking for a server that supports Intel processors, you will need to look up the DL360 Gen10 or the DL360 Gen10 Plus Rack Servers by HPE. If you do not fill out all 32 DIMMs you must install the DIMM blank kit (P07818-B21), required for empty DIMM slots.

The DL365 Gen10 Plus Rack Server comes with only 1x8SFF Chassis that has the option of either a Media Bay or 2 Extra Drives for a total of 10SFF Drives in one chassis. This Rack server supports SATA/SAS or NVMe Drives. Please make sure you install U.2 & U.3 Drives where supported. Please do not mix these as it will cause issues if you have any questions please contact us via chat or email.

This DL365 Gen10 Plus boasts an impressive 132 Core system on a 2-socket configuration with select processors. A Max-Performance Heat Sink Kit (P43104-B21) will be selected for processors equal to or greater than 280W. For any processor greater than 155W, the High-Performance Fan Kit and Hight Performance Heat Sink (P19368-B21) will be supported. If you have a single processor configuration that is lower than or equal to 155W. The base Standard Fan kit will be installed for you (P44887-B21).

Chassis Configurations
Each server starts with the same 8SFF Chassis. This chassis has 3 backplane options and each backplane has additional drives that can be installed or an Optical Disk Drive. Do not Mix U.2 and U.3 NVMe Drives. The 2SFF Tri-Mode Cable Kit (P36657-B21) must be selected if a 2SFF U.2 or U.3 backplane is installed with a tri-mode controller. Below are the backplane options for this DL365 Gen10 Plus Rack Server.

  • The 8SFF SAS/SATA BC Backplane Kit (P38579-B21),
    supports the 2SFF SAS/SATA BC Backplane Kit (P38580-B21).
  • The 8SFF x4 Tri-Mode 24G U.3 BC Backplane Kit (P26429-B21),
    supports the 2SFF U.3 BC Premium Backplane Kit (P38581-B21).
  • The 8SFF x4 NVMe 16G U.2 BC Backplane Kit (P26433-B21),
    supports the 2SFF U.2 BC Premium Backplane Kit (P38582-B21).

HPE Smart Storage Controllers
All models feature an embedded storage controller, capable of operating on AHCI or SR100i modes, with embedded software supporting RAID for either up to 8SFF SATA drives or 2 U.3 NVMe SSDs. The HPE Smart Storage SR100i SR Gen10 Plus SW RAID will operate in UEFI mode only. Legacy Mode (758959-B22) and SR100i Gen10 Plus SW RAID cannot be selected together. For legacy support, an additional controller will be needed.

The embedded SATA controller by default will work in AHCI Mode. The embedded controller supports SATA and 2xU.3 NVMe drives when enabled correctly. The HPE Smart Storage SR100i SR Gen10 Plus SW RAID for SATA can be enabled by selecting SR100i SATA SW RAID (P55046-B21) and for NVMe by selecting SR100i SW RAID (P28417-B21). HPE also launched Tri-Mode controllers which will support NVMe U.3/U.2 drives as well as SAS/SATA drives. A minimum of two Gigabytes (2 GB) of server memory is required for each adapter. For more information, please read up on each controller in the specs manual below.

When installing a Performance Storage Controller (P02377-B21) you will need an Energy Pack installed. The Capacitor holds up to 3 Devices while the 96W Storage Battery (P01366-B21) can support 24 devices.

HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus M.2 Drives.
M.2 Drives are a great way to boot the device without taking up a Drive Bay, you can also save a PCIe slot when you use the NS204i-R riser that has 2x M.2 slots as well as 2 PCIe slots.
If the M.2 Drive (P40513-B21 Exclusively used on NS204i-R Rise) option is selected then M.2 Riser Kit M.2 NS204i-r Riser (P26463-B21) must be selected. This is the only NVMe M.2 option that can be supported on the NS204i-R Riser (P26463-B21). This option also requires the selection of a High-Performance Fan Kit (P26477-B21).

If you need to install a different riser, no worries. You can also install the Internal PCIe HHHL M.2 Enablement Kit (878783-B21) which holds 2x M.2 Drives.

HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus PCI Risers
The DL365 Gen10 Plus Rack Server has 3 PCIe slots on 2 Riser Cages. The Primary riser has two different Riser Cards that can be installed. Each card has a very distinct reason for installation. We have the Primary Default GPU riser that holds 2 x16 PCIe slots and a GPU power connector. The second riser card we can install is the NS204i-R Boot Device Riser. This riser card holds two M.2 Drives for boot along with 1x16 and 1x8 PCIe slot.

The secondary riser cage holds only 1 PCIe slot but has two riser card options that are very similar to the Primary options. The first option is the Secondary GPU Riser which has an x16 Slot for a full-height card. When this riser is installed with an FH PCIe device. The Primary Riser Slot 2 becomes obsolete. Now, if you install the second option for the Secondary Riser you will be able to use all three PCIe slots. The second option is a Low-Profile x16 PCIe slot which does not support a GPU device.

Any installation of a secondary riser requires a second processor to also be installed.

HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus GPU / Workload Accelerator
There is only one option now on the HPE specs manual for a GPU. The Max quantity allowed is two when the secondary Full height riser is selected. When you install a GPU, the system requires the selection of the High-Performance Fan Kit (P26477-B21) and 2 Processors.

OCP 3.0
The best way to install a network option and to save a PCIe slot is with the OCP 3.0 Device. If an OCP card is installed there is an OCP Upgrade Cable Kit (P14603-B21), this kit provides cables for certain configurations.

HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus Cooling
Don’t worry about the Fans, 1 Socket Configurations come with 5 Standard Fans and 2 Socket configurations come with 7 Standard Fans.

When cooling a system that can handle Processors up to 280W you’ll need some serious cooling. There are two different heatsinks to choose from based on the processors that have been selected. You have the High-Performance Heat Sink Kit (P19368-B21) and the Max-Performance Heat Sink Kit (P43104-B21). There are rules for each one based on the TDP of the processors installed. Over 155W is the High-Performance Heatsink, and if the TDP is 280W or more then you’ll use the Max-Performance Heatsink.

There are three fan kits to choose from to cool the system. The Standard Fan Kit (P37861-B21) and the High-Performance Fan Kit (P26477-B21), both can be installed on a Dual Socket configuration. If you have a single socket configuration with one processor that is lower than or equal to 155W then you can install the Base Standard Fan Kit (P44887-B21).

Below is a list of items that require the High-Performance Fan Kit:

  • Processors over TDP more than 155W
  • Any NVMe drives installed or SAS4 drives.
  • Networking PCI/OCP cards are equal to or above 100Gb.
  • PCIe SATA/NVMe adapter and Riser NVMe adapter are selected.
  • GPU T4 is installed.

HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus Flex Slot your power!
The HPE DL365 Gen10 Plus Rack Server is Energy Star 3.0 compliant. All power supplies in the DL365 Gen10 Plus rack server should match. Mixing Power Supplies is not supported.


-48VDC Power Cable Lug Kit (P36877-B21) is to be used with HPE 1600W Flex Slot -48VDC Hot Plug Power Supply Kit. Only one power cable lug kit needs to be selected with the 1600W -48VDC power supply

This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.

If the Trusted Platform Module 2.0 BR Module Kit (P13771-B21) is selected along with Legacy BIOS Mode (758959-B22) then this HPE Gen10 TPM 1.2 FIO Setting (872108-B21) option must be selected.

The HPE ProLiant DL365 Gen10 Plus SFF Internal Cable Kit (P26449-B21) Is used when a non-controller is installed in slot 1, and a controller is mounting in slot2, then the must select this cable kit to connect to slot2.

What is not covered by our warranty?
Our warranty does not cover any problem caused by the following conditions:

  1. accidents; misuse; carelessness; electrostatic discharge; shock; temperature or humidity beyond the specifications of the product; improper installation; operation; modification;
  2. any improper use that contravenes the instructions in the user manual;
  3. problems caused by other equipment. Our warranty is void if the product is returned with damaged, removed, counterfeit labels, or any modifications (including any component or external cover removal). Our warranties do not cover data loss or damages to any other equipment. In addition, our warranties do not cover incidental damages, consequential damages, or costs related to data recovery, removal, and installation.
