The DL380 Gen10 Rack Server from HPE has two different versions. One versions is to choose a chassis without the embedded HPE 1Gb Ethernet 4-Port 331i Adapter. These Chassis are called the Network Choice (NC) Rack Server Chassis . Both the NC and non-NC chassis have the option of a FlexibleLOM or Stand-up cards for network capabilities. This is the only difference between the NC and non-NC chassis. The last thing to touch on is the Basic Carrier (BC) Rack Server. All this means is that the server only supports Drives in a BC, Basic Carrier. If you find yourself getting confused and not sure how to configure this server. Please contact us via chat or email.

The DL380 Gen10 supports Intel Xeon Scalable Gen2 processors. Only the 2nd Gen can support the Intel Optane Persistent Memory which has a Max of 12 DIMMs per server. This DL380 Gen10 Rack Server has 24 DIMM Slots Available, 12 DIMM slots per processor, 6 channels per processor, and 2 DIMMs per channel. Intel Optane Persistent Memory can only be mixed with either RDIMMs or LRDIMMs. The mixing of RDIMM and LRDIMM memory is not supported.

The DL380 Gen10 is a bit complex with all the configurations it provides. The best way to break this down is to focus on the LFF version before we get into the SFF version.

The Large Form Factor version of the DL380 comes with two different chassis, the 8LFF and the 12LFF chassis. The following is each storage upgrade broken down by chassis.

8 LFF Chassis-----
The 8LFF Chassis has the top drive bay open. This open bay allows for 2 additional drives, either SAS/SATA or NVMe as well as the ODD.

  • 8LFF Front 2SFF SAS/SATA HDD Kit (867805-B21)
  • 8LFF Front 2NVMe HDD Bay Kit (873781-B21)

Both kits above come with the Universal Media bay included. For NVMe support, you can either install the NVMe SlimSAS Riser (867806-B21) that has 1 NVMe port on the riser card. Or install the 2-port 4 NVMe SlimSAS Riser (867808-B21) which can support up to 4 NVMe Drives. The 867808-B21 takes over a PCI slot while the first option does not. Remember that the NVMe drives require the addition of the High-Performance Fan kit (867810-B21).

The next option for the 8LFF Chassis is the option for the additional rear drives.

  • 2SFF Rear HDD SAS/SATA Riser Kit (826688-B21) This leaves 1 open x16 PCI slot at the bottom of the riser.
  • 3LFF Rear SAS/SATA Drive Kit (826685-B21)

The 2SFF Rear Riser kit can go into Riser locations 1 or 2. The 3LFF rear drives kit can go into Riser location 2 and both are supported by the 8LFF and the 12LFF chassis. Both upgrade kits can be installed at the same time. 826688-B21 kit supports uFF drives. The 3LFF rear upgrade takes up Riser locations 2 and 3, this is why it can only be installed in Riser location 2.

The last upgrade for the 8LFF Chassis is the 4LFF Midplane SAS/SATA HDD Kit (826686-B21). This kit is also supported by both the 8LFF and the 12LFF chassis. This Midplane Drive Tray sits on top of the DIMMS and CPUs. This tray does support hot-swap drives and requires High-Performance Fans (867810-B21).

12 LFF Chassis-----
With the 12LFF chassis, the only options for upgrade are the Rear and Internal drives which we discussed above.

  • HPE DL38X Gen10 3LFF Rear SAS/SATA Drive Kit (826685-B21)

  • The 2SFF Premium HDD Front NVMe or Front/Rear SAS/SATA Kit (826687-B21) has a drive cage that can be installed in the front or the back.

8SFF Chassis-----
The 8SFF Chassis comes with all 8 Drives in Box 3. Box 1 and 2 are empty by default which means we have quite a number of configurations to choose from with just the front drives. Box 1 and 2 have some limitations and we will go over them now.

Box 1 is the only box that can support the Universal Media Bay (826708-B21) that holds the ODD. This Bay has the option of supporting 2 NVMe (878189-B21) or 4 NVMe (878186-B21) front drives with the correct NVMe risers installed.
Box 2 can have either 8SFF SAS/SATA drives (826691-B21), 8 NVMe Drives (826689-B21), or 6SFF SAS/SATA and 2 NVMe drives (826690-B21).
Please note: Max of 20 NVMe drives is supported on this server.

The 2SFF Premium HDD Front NVMe or Front/Rear SAS/SATA Kit (826687-B21) has a drive cage that can be installed in the front or the back. If installed in the back it will not support NVMe drives only SAS/SATA.

24SFF Chassis------
With the 24SFF Chassis, all the front drives are filled, so the only option for upgrades is in the rear drive section. The HPE DL38X Gen10 2SFF Rear HDD SAS/SATA Riser Kit (826688-B21) is only available in the 24SFF and 12LFF Models. This Riser has 2 SFF Drives on top with 1x16 PCIe slot on the bottom.

HPE Smart Storage Controllers
The DL380 supports the Type-A AROC Controllers, by installing a Type-A controller you will save a PCI slot on the risers. This is a great way to keep flexibility without compromising an expansion slot. Please view the Spec manual for more details on the cabling of these controllers.

HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10 SW RAID is off by default and must be enabled. The S100i uses 14 embedded SATA ports, but only 12 ports are accessible as 2 are leveraged to support the 2 M.2 options on the primary riser. If more than 8 SATA devices are being supported on this controller, then 1 of the SAS 3POS Cable Kit (826709-B21) is required. Performance RAID Controllers require the HPE Smart Hybrid Capacitor (P02377-B21) or the HPE Smart Storage Battery (P01366-B21) which are sold separately.

Tri-Mode MegaRAID Controllers are only supported by Basic Carrier BC Drives on HPE DL380 Gen10 NC 8SFF BC CTO Server (P56969-B21) and HPE DL380 Gen10 8SFF BC CTO Server (P56970-B21). The following drive cages are supported with Broadcom controllers:

  • 2SFF BC HDD SAS/SATA Riser Kit (P57772-B21)
  • 2SFF Premium HDD SAS/SATA BC Front/Rear Backplane Kit (P57773-B21)
  • 8SFF SAS/SATA BC Box 1-2 Backplane Kit (P57774-B21)

The Tri-Mode Controllers also have their own Cables that are needed. The cables below are only supported with the 8SFF BC Models.

HPE DL380 Gen10 M.2 Drives.
The M.2 Drive support Software RAID only and it must be enabled by selecting the SW RAID (784308-B21). The Primary Riser support 3 PCI slots 1 GPU Power Connector and Dual M.2 drives. This is the only riser that supports the M.2 on the riser card without taking up a PCIe slot.

Some other ways to install M.2 Drives is with the uFF drive bays. The rear Premium 2SFF HDD Kit (826687-B21) and 2SFF HDD Riser Kit (826688-B21) both support the use of uFF drives. The last way to install M.2 drives is for a Boot Option only. The HPE NS204i-p x2 Lanes NVMe PCIe3 x8 OS Boot Device (P12965-B21) comes with 2x480GB M.2 Drives.

P14374-B21 and P14373-B21 each support up to (3) full-height, half-length, single-width Accelerators/GPUs, totaling (6) Accelerators in the primary riser and secondary riser.

HPE DL380 Gen10 GPU / Workload Accelerator
The Table below will let you know how many of each GPU can be installed at one time. Please take a look at power consumption as GPU’s tend to take a bit of power to run. Performance fans (867810-B21) are required for all GPU installations (Note these ship as standard with the 24SFF and 12LFF models). Performance Heatsinks (826706-B21) are required for Double Wide GPU installations (Note these ship as standard on Processors over 130W processors). Mixing of GPUs is not supported. With the Standard Primary Riser the top x8 PCIe Slot connector will not be accessible with the installation of a doublewide GPU. The installation of the 4 LFF mid-tray will not support any GPU cards. There are even more rules and limitations with certain GPU configurations. Please read the Spec Manual at the bottom of the page for more detailed information.

Networking Abilities | FlexibleLOM, Stand-up card

The DL380 Gen10 embedded LOM chassis ships standard with 4x 1 Gb embedded. When you have an NC Chassis selected, you are required to install either a FlexibleLOM or a Stand-up card. Not all networking options can be selected as the primary networking choice when having a Networking Choice (NC) chassis. Please read the Spec Manual for more details on which card can and cannot be used as the primary networking option for the NC Chassis.

A minimum of two Gigabytes (2 GB) of server memory is required per adapter.

Pensando Distributed Services Cards (DSC)
The Pensando Distributed Services Card (DSC) is a hardware accelerator card designed to enhance network and security services in data centers. By offloading and accelerating various network functions and services to the DSC, it aims to improve network performance, reduce latency, increase security, and provide better visibility into network traffic. If you install the iLO Sideband Management Adaptive LOM Module you will are also required to install the Pensando Distributed Services Platform DSC-25 Enterprise 10/25Gb 2-port SFP28 Card (P26966-B21).

HPE DL380 Gen10 Cooling
The High-Performance Heat Sink Kit (826706-B21) is required for GPU installation and processors with a TDP above 130W. Another cooling kit that is needed with certain installations is the High-Performance Fan Kit (867810-B21). This Fan kit is required to support GPU, NVMe Drives, Rear drives, and when all three front-drive boxes are filled.

The 8SFF CTO 1P models ship with 4 standard fans. The second processor option kit contains 2 additional fans. 12 LFF and 24 SFF CTO Servers ship with 6 High-performance fans included.

HPE Flexible Slot (Flex Slot) Power Supplies share a common electrical and physical design that allows for hot plug, tool-less installation into HPE ProLiant Gen10 Performance Servers. Flex Slot power supplies are certified for high-efficiency operation and offer multiple power output options, allowing users to "right-size" a power supply for specific server configurations. This flexibility helps to reduce power waste, lower overall energy costs, and avoid "trapped" power capacity in the data center.

ECS Warranty Information

Express Computer Systems (ECS) provides a 1 year parts warranty against defects in material or workmanship that will affect the products functionality. All refurbished items are tested prior to shipping to guarantee up-time upon arrival. If you are having issues with an item we provided please Contact Us and we will do our best to assist you.

What does our ECS warranty cover?
We offer 1 year warranty as standard and additional years can be added to fit your needs. Please reach out to a sales associate via the Contact Us page or live chat for more information on extended coverage options. During the coverage period if your product fails we will offer a Next Business Day replacement. If we are unable to replace the product we will refund its original selling price. Shipping costs and tax are not refundable. Express Computer Systems retains the right to decide whether the goods will be replaced or refunded.

What is not covered by our warranty?
Our warranty does not cover any problem caused by the following conditions:

  1. accidents; misuse; carelessness; electrostatic discharge; shock; temperature or humidity beyond the specifications of the product; improper installation; operation; modification;
  2. any improper use that contravenes the instructions in the user manual;
  3. problems caused by other equipment. Our warranty is void if the product is returned with damaged, removed, counterfeit labels, or any modifications (including any component or external cover removal). Our warranties do not cover data loss or damages to any other equipment. In addition, our warranties do not cover incidental damages, consequential damages, or costs related to data recovery, removal, and installation.

Important notes:

  • Please ask for additional warranty/coverage that you may require in addition to the standard 1 ECS warranty prior to final purchase. Requesting additional warranty after your purchase can be denied.
