Scientists need to simulate increasingly complex problems and visualize larger amounts of data with greater accuracy to achieve high-impact scientific and engineering breakthroughs. These resource-intensive workloads are pushing infrastructure limits, requiring more performance, bandwidth, memory and adaptability than ever before.

The PowerEdge C8220X double-wide compute sled can be configured with storage or graphics processing unit (GPU) expansion. Each sled, regardless of whether it is configured with GPU or additional storage, has two Intel Xeon E5‑2600 v2 processors with up to 12 cores each and 16 DIMM slots.

The GPU sled can help you make those breakthroughs quickly by housing up to two NVIDIA Tesla K20 GPUs. The storage sled adds another four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDDs or eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA HDDs or SSDs and another two  2.5‑inch SAS/SATA HDDs or SSDs in addition to the two 2.5‑inch internal SATA HDDs or SSDs (for up to 12 2.5” SAS/SATA HDDs or SSDs).

With two of the fastest processors available, and up to two of the most advanced GPUs available in one sled, you can speed processing by an order of magnitude to see results faster.

The Intel Xeon processor E5 product family can boost server performance by up to 80% over previousgeneration processors, accelerate data availability to the processing cores, while delivering up to 70% more performance per watt.

Add up to two NVIDIA Tesla K20 GPU Computing Modules and accelerate parallel processing applications by up to 10x, with up to 665 gigaflops of double precision performance and one teraflop of single-precision performance.

When it comes to memory, 16 DIMM slots provide up to 512GB3 of memory per sled, and 1866MT/s memory is available to help improve bandwidth per processor. The Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors have 2.3x the memory bandwidth of the previous generation, with four memory channels, and the integrated I/O helps reduce latency up to 30%.

The PowerEdge C8220X compute/GPU sled is also available with PCIe 3.0, doubling the I/O bandwidth of the previous generation.
